I remember researching about the voting trends for the US elections, in order to prepare for a psephology class recently, in which I came to realize how important this election result becomes, not only for the American citizens but also for the world in general.

Despite the label the world power equation has come to uphold, of multipolarity, the stronghold, in terms of soft and hard power has remained loyally with the United States. And this undisputed hegemon has, thus, been the most important player in the power politics of the world even today.

This brings me to state why the decision of who would be the chosen leader, remains an important one. We might not have an active fiddle to play in the ongoing elections yet the certitude that we will all be influenced, in ways unimagined, by the decisions that the elected leader would make in times to come. For mere instance, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has led a student like me, sitting in my hostel in Delhi, to wonder about the price hike that has been triggered because of the war. And the Republican candidate, Donald Trump says that if he’s voted to power, he’d stop the war in a day. Now, this clearly means how distant global events tend to impact us, and how countries like the US have a stake as great as mentioned in the ibid case!

Aforesaid, the significant changes that are bound to arise in the world polity because of the US elections, demand our attention, such that we keep ticking the checkboxes that both the parties, The Democrats and The Republicans, have to offer and how their work affects India and the world in the near future.

Looking at the tipping points, both sides differ on, we come down to less than a dozen key issues. From having diametrically opposing views on issues like abortion, climate change and trade, the Republicans and the Democrats might want to sit at a table and agree on similar stances, if not ways to manage/tackle issues like immigration or upkeep of ties with the Middle East.

Now, since both sides rally for polar viewpoints, the audiences that they find supporting themselves vary as well. For the liberal Democrats, people under the banner of multiculturalists are party to their campaigns whereas, for the Republicans, with a conservative ideology, those associating with capitalist and orthodox ideals would join hands in their rallies.

As far as the predictions are concerned, both contenders are equally eager to run past the finishing line and be declared winners.

Indians, too, are ready with their aarti ki thaali, prepared to put the victory mark on the foreheads of either Kamala Harris, who would be the first woman of race to be the president or Donald Trump, who would be the first one to be chosen as the president for the second time in a non-consecutive fashion, if they are chosen to power!

We’ll know soon which color the map of the 50 states be painted in. But the excitement till then would certainly keep one swing like a pendulum to the blue left extreme or the red right extreme! Though sometimes, the two colours seem to blend in the right proportion to make our minds go purple altogether, not knowing who would garner the maximum votes, we know for sure that either the elephant or the donkey would dance in triumph very soon. Moreover, India, has come to place itself in a position that is not very precarious, despite how the recent turn of events has been in the neighbouring nation of Canada, it would definitely want a leader that strokes the brush with whatever colour they like but paints a scene that Indians would rejoice!
